Feb 19 - 25

Monday, February 19 - It was President's Day so the kids and Simon had the day off but unfortunately, I had to work. :) I took care of Darlene for my mom while she is on a cruise. It was a very scary drive to South Jordan from my house. While I was there, Simon took the kids to the park to sled. A bunch of other friends/ward members were there doing the same thing. The kids had a blast!

Tuesday, February 20 - We have Evening of Excellence coming up and I volunteered to do the decorating so I worked on these Mason jars. They turned out cute enough that Kendra wants to keep them and use them in her new room downstairs.

Wednesday, February 21 - These girls are pretty darn amazing! We gave each group $5 to buy and prepare a complete meal with nothing more than a microwave. The first team did chicken fettuccine alfredo, French bread, corn, and gummy worms for dessert. The second team did baked (microwave) potatoes with ranch, cheese sauce, and ham, and a pie for dessert. They did such a great job and I'm confident that they can go to college on their own.......in a few years! :)

Thursday, February 22 - Our poor little Jake has been sick with the flu since Halle's birthday. He did start to get better for a few days but got worse again. On Monday, he came to bowling and had had a headache for two days. After several trips in and out of InstaCare, his head ended up hurting so bad that he couldn't open his left eye. It got so bad that I got a call tonight around 10:00 pm that he was in the emergency room awaiting a brain scan. My initial reaction was that a CT was kind of extreme but Jenni explained to me that she was the one requesting it (demanding it), not the doctors. She said that he was hallucinating and didn't know who he was or where he was. The result came back that he had a "brain bleed" (which would have been bad enough) and that he needed to go to the Neuro Trauma Unit up at Primary Children's Hospital. They debated on sending him by ambulance but because BJ is an experienced nurse, they allowed him to drive Jake. Upon arrival, the docs there looked at the scans and determined that he had significant infection on the brain (not a bleed) and that he needed surgery immediately. They pushed back their 7:30 am brain surgery in favor of getting Jake in for major brain surgery first.

Friday, February 23 - They took Jake in for surgery around 7:00 am and it was very successful. The puss and infection came oozing out as soon as they opened him up which made his surgery shorter and less invasive than they originally though. I stayed at Jenni's house to get Trevan and Halle out the door to school and to stay with sweet Rellie until BJ's sister Katie got there to get her. I volunteered for the unfortunate task of contacting my parents on their Mexican cruise to let them know what was happening. Jenni was funny. She said, "Tell them it's not an emergency and just to call as soon as they can". Ummm...no! This is the very definition of EMERGENCY so my texts and FB messages were "Call as soon as possible. It's urgent." I talked to dad and then mom. They were, understandably, very upset by the news and debated on flying home from Cabo San Lucas that day. Because his surgery was such a success and things seemed to be on the mend, they decided not to come home. A decision that they would later regret. :*(

Saturday, February 24 - I was able to spend most of the day up at the hospital, thank heaven. While we were there in the waiting room, Jenni and BJ came in with devastating news. Jake had a venous stroke and has a small blood clot in the back of his brain. He also still had a lot of infection on his brain that they were concerned about. They knew that a second surgery was necessary. This time, they would go up his nose into his sinuses and remove as much infection from his sinuses as they could. The surgery went okay but they knew that he needed even more before this was all over.

Sunday, February 25 - This is about the worst day I can remember. First thing in the morning, Jenni called to let us know that Jake would need another brain surgery to remove more infection. This time, they would reopen the incision from the first surgery plus cut in a zig-zag pattern across the top of his head. They did this so that, in conjunction to removing infection from his brain, they could do a second sinus surgery. They did a bone, muscle, and cement graft from under his forehead skin into his sinuses so that infection could no longer travel between his sinuses and brain. This should *hopefully* slow down the infection now and prevent this from ever happening again in the future. The poor boy was intubated and had a drain tube to remove excess fluid from the surgery site but otherwise, the surgery went very well and they are optimistic that he will begin to recover from here. Kenny & Katie picked Nick and I up after church and gave us a ride up to the hospital. It was interesting taking Nick into the PICU where he spent a week as a one-year-old. The bottom picture is him standing in front of room 2324 - his room from almost exactly 11 years ago! He was sad seeing Jake like this. They are such good buddies, I can't imagine how this must be affecting him. We pray for Jake every chance we get but I think seeing him was a game-changer for Nick.

Feb 12 - 18

Monday, February 12 - Simon is loving his new drone and the awesome pictures it takes. Nick loves it too! If I can't find my boys (and Ricki in the background), they are probably outside flying the drone and taking pictures!

Tuesday, February 13 - Grandma and Jim took the kids and I to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. The kids had so much fun playing in the playroom, we stayed even after they had gone. :)

Wednesday, February 14 - I was in charge of Zack's Valentine's Day party at school. We made necklaces, decorated yummy cupcakes, and played games. It was super fun! Later tonight, we were invited to the Mortensen's house for an amazing V-day dinner and game. It's been a great day!

Thursday, February 15 - Ricki, Zack, and I stopped by mom's house today and she commented that our hair looked exactly the same. She snapped this pic and I thought it was kind of fun. :)

Friday, February 16 - We got our fireplace!! Yay!!!

Saturday, February 17 - The Coles family found out yesterday that one of Chase's little friends from school has cancer. They got together with a bunch of other families from the class and put on an amazing bake sale/fundraiser at a local Herriman park. The kids, Savy, and I walked over with packed lunches then bought horse rides and desserts. It was a fun outing and good to get some exercise in for the day.

Sunday, February 18 - Kendra has this awful bruise on her hip from doing the "bar" at school on recess. At first, it was bright purple, then dark blue, and now (several weeks later) it looks like this! She showed it to me and said that there is a big hard spot in the center that if it gets hit or pushed on, it stings. That freaked me right out! We will be having that seen in the next day or two!

Feb 5 - 11

Monday, February 5 - Simon joined a co-ed soccer team with Mountain America. He's had a few games but it has been hard for me to go to any because they are always either right when I'm trying to get kids to bed or after they have already gone to bed. Tonight, however, his game was at 5:30. Wahoo! We called this family night and went and watched him play. It was fun to see him out there playing. I'm happy he's doing it...it's good for him!

Tuesday, February 6 - I can't believe this is happening but Kenny and Katie are just about to close on their first home together! It is in Eagle Mountain and it's adorable! Such a great house for this sweet little family! We went to lunch together at Kneader's and then all headed out to check out the new crib. I just couldn't be happier for them!!

Wednesday, February 7 - Jenni asked me a while ago to teach a cake decorating class for young women's. When I agreed to this, I didn't realize that it was her WHOLE YW! It was super fun though and I think the girls learned a few things and had a lot of fun too. I'm glad to have a talent or two that I can share. :)

Thursday, February 8 - As pretty much anyone that may read my blog would know, we haven't always had the best relationship with our neighbor to the South of us. However, things have gotten much better in the last year or so. You can imagine my surprise when the kids came home from school and informed me that the neighbor had a sign in their yard! I guess they finally just couldn't take any more of the Pearson's! :) Here's hoping we have a good family move in next door...preferably with 4 kids around ages 12, 9, 6, & 3. Ha!

Friday, February 9 - Well, the basement is coming along; even if it is a mell of a hess! The plumber has been coming and basically knocked two huge holes in the bathroom cement so that he could access the pipes under the toilet and bathtub. The tub should go in tomorrow! I can't believe it's really coming along like this!

Saturday, February 10 - Kendra, Ricki, and I got to go to the McCullough's house to enjoy a very fun birthday party for these two sweeties. We decorated tiaras, painted nails, played "pin the lips on the frog", and enjoyed cupcakes. It was a fun party! And as you can see, we had a repeat of it on Sunday.

Sunday, February 11 - We had a nice dinner and party for the girls with our family (yesterday was a friend party). I got to make the rose cupcakes, which was so fun! Happy birthday sweet Halle and Brielle. We love you so much!

Feb 29 - Jan 4

Monday, January 29 - Sometimes when you're watching YouTube tutorials on the laptop together, you just get tired!

Tuesday, January 30 - Nick was one of two kids selected from his class to participate in the school spelling bee. He did a good job! He made it through the first three rounds but then missed his word and had to sit down. I was proud of him for even trying and getting up in front of his peers to compete. Way to go Nick!

Wednesday, January 31 - Again, so proud of my boy and all he is doing. He received several awards at the Court of Honor tonight including his Tender Foot, First Class, and Second Class. He is eager and ready to continue in the scouting program toward his Eagle Scout. I'm also so thankful that Simon works with him and knows what he is doing!

Thursday, February 1 - Happy 7th birthday to this little darlin'! I know I say it all the time but I can't believe how quickly these kids are growing up!

Friday, February 2 - My sweet Kendra loves puzzles almost as much as I do. I had the card table set up for a different puzzle that I had been working on so she cleaned that one up and got out this Girl's Trip one. She was pretty excited that she was able to complete it on her own!

Saturday, February 3 - Amie's friend Stacey had tickets to the Utah Gymnastics Meet that she was unable to use so she asked if I would like to take the kids and go. Simon had Dave and the plumber coming over to work on the basement so I loaded the kids up, hopped on a Trax train, and took them. They had so much fun and they were so good to help make sure everyone was safe crossing the busy roads. This was a fun mommy-kid outing memory for all of us!

Sunday, February 4 - Are you ready for some football!?!?!?!!? We had our annual Super Bowl party at my parent's house. I would tell you who played and who won but honestly, I watched very little of the game. :)
