Monday, August 16 - It's my kiddos first day of high school! High school!?!?!? How crazy is that?? A few of us moms decided to get together and "surprise" our boys as they got off the bus with posters, balloons, silly string, and cookies from Crumbl. He had a good first day. I'm so happy with the young man he is becoming. He is hardworking and driven. That will take him places in life. Our evening wasn't quite as fun. It's hard to see but we went to my parent's house and finally picked up the van. We rented a car dolly and towed it home behind Simon's truck. It wasn't pleasant but at least the van is home now so Simon can take his time to figure out what is wrong with it.
Tuesday, August 17 - Today was the first day of school for these three cuties. Kendra is in 8th grade, Zack in 4th, and Ricki in 2nd. I hope they have a great school year ahead!
Wednesday, August 18 - It's done! The backsplash is complete and everything is in so our basement kitchenette is done and I think it's safe to say the basement is DONE! :) (Happy cheers!!!) Now, we just need to decorate and buy a table for down there but as far as construction, it's complete and I could not be happier with the finished product! Simon did an amazing job of making it a beautiful, modern, comfortable place down there and I know many memories will be made in our gorgeous new space!
Thursday, August 19 - Well, I guess two days of school was pretty good before our quarantine began. Sweet Kendra came home from school yesterday with a little scratchy throat and a headache. She took a two hour nap, which is not like her, and woke up feeling yucky. Luckily, we kept her home from young women's and when she woke up this morning still feeling sick, we decided to get her an appointment for a Covid test. Sure enough, she tested positive! She will have to isolate in her room for the next 10 days and the other three kids will have to miss school and quarantine at home for that amount of time as well. Simon and I can still go out in public because we are vaccinated but we are supposed to wear masks indoors with other people and where social distancing is not possible. So...this is fun! Luckily, Kendra is in good spirits and isn't feeling too sick yet so we're praying it doesn't get worse.
Friday, August 20 - Our family is falling apart! BJ had to go to the ER with kidney stones again. He has been in so much pain! They decided to go in and blast one of the stones but they have discovered 5 more so he has a road ahead to look forward to those. Luckily, with modern medicine, there are pain killers that really help so now that he is in the hospital, he isn't in as much pain. Hopefully this will take care of them and they can get to the bottom of what is causing them and help prevent them in the future.
Saturday, August 21 - Liz gave me the last two days off to help care for Kendra and get the kids' schoolwork in order. However, our 26 box shipment of the kids fall line came in yesterday and we have a CRAZY work week next week so I came in today to help sort it all and get it input in preparation for next week. Liz and I worked together for four hours on this and got a lot of it done, but not all of it! What a crazy mess! :) Good thing we are hard workers and will get it done before the release next week!
Sunday, August 22 - It pretty much breaks my mom-heart to drop off food to Kendra's room and leave her alone to eat by herself and spend 24 hours per day by herself. We had the idea today to have Sunday dinner outside and just put Kendra on the kids table several feet away from us to eat. I dished her food up and she sat there in the corner while we ate. It was nice to spend the time with her and felt less disconnected, even if it was just for a little while. Isolation is hard. It may be harder on me than her. I just feel so guilty having her be in her room alone all that time. Families were meant to be together, not isolated. I can't wait until next Saturday when we can all hang out again without worry!
